Q - Questions

Q - Questions

I am a Christian. Somebody very close to me in my life isn't.

One of their biggest arguments is that they don't like questioning things. They like to have a complete and definitive answer, and religion doesn't provide them with that.

Which makes ME respond with two main questions:
1) A life without God makes sense?
2) And so you'd rather just never ask and live your life not knowing him?

The focus of the post today is going to be on 2).

You see, I will agree, religion doesn't provide all the answers. For me, even though I'd class myself as a Christian, I am definitely without many answers.

But you see, I recently went to a Q and A style session with my local Christian group. One of the leaders who is employed in a CHRISTIAN charity, admitted he had many unanswered questions. In fact, he said, 'When I get to Heaven I'm gonna be happy to be there, but once I settle in, I definitely have a few questions I'm gonna ask.' This leader is somebody I look up to, and who often provides me with answers, yet even THEY admitted there is a lot that is unknown to them, and that they question.

I attended a Christian camp in summer. Throughout the week we gathered questions, and at the end we had a group discussion, my 2 leaders, myself, and 6 other teenagers. These 2 leaders, in my opinion, are incredibly knowledgeable. They helped to strengthen my faith so much. In fact, I'd say they have taught me the most about myself, my God, my religion and my faith than I've learnt in a LONG time. I'll stop gushing, but they were incredible. But even as we asked them our questions, they were able to say 'actually I don't know' or 'this is something I ask myself a lot too' or 'so many other Christians are striving to find an answer about this too'. These people that knew so much, still had their questions.

Because the thing is, nobody has all the answers. I just find it really quite shocking that somebody would rather live their whole life ignoring religion, and turning a blind eye against all the indications they see to religion, simply because they don't want to have questions. They don't even look! Because 'they know' they won't find all the answers.

Personally, I'd much rather spend my life on a journey investigating the questions I have, and the new ones that are undoubtedly going to arise. I'd much rather to search and search and search. And maybe, I won't like one of the answers I get, and stuff won't add up, and I'll no longer class myself as a Christian. But at least then I'll know that I don't believe in God. Or maybe, I'll search and search, and although I'll never meet the answers, I'll get closer to knowing, and when I leave this Earth, I'll find out the answers for sure.

I'd much rather keep questioning and learning, than stay in this in between-y state of denial and stubbornness.

So, your challenge this time: is to keep asking your questions, especially about faith! Leave comments on this post, talk to a Christian friend, go to a Sunday service at a local church, read the bible, find a local q-and-a session, if you're in a school attend your Christian Union. Keep searching, and keep questioning.
