F - Friendship

Friendships can be the make and break of things. But, because my friend has told me my blog is awfully negative, I'm going to focus on the make. The positives. The good things about friendships - because there are oh so many!

To me, I think my friends are one of the most important things in my life. Now, I know this is dangerous. After all, people come and go, but we are stuck with ourselves forever. So yes, we shouldn't value other people too much, but... Well, I just do.

Friendship comes in many forms. It's the people you went to primary school with, but hardly ever see anymore. It people you see every single day. It's people you see only occasionally, but when you do, you feel as though there was no time apart. It's people that you can't see anymore for whatever reason, but they are so active and alive in your thoughts that they may as well be besides you. It's also people you got to know through weird situations: that trip to the hospital when you were both waiting, and now you like eachother's instagram posts, that childhood friend you only really became friends with because your parents are friends, the person on your bus who you never speak to but always smile at. 

Friendship comes in so many different forms, and I think that's the beauty of it.

Every friendship is different, and I think that's what makes them equally difficult and beautiful. But, as promised to my friends, this is a positive post, so we'll focus on the beautiful.

What I love is how each friendship is so individual, and so special. You know that if you need a laugh, you can go to friend x. If you need to talk through a difficult situation, you can go to friend y. And if you just need to sit in silence, to feel eachother's company, person z is the one for you. 

I think that sometimes we get so caught up in friendships being 'perfect' that we don't really appreciate them for what they are. We want to be able to laugh, and sing, and cry, and sit in silence, and seek advice, ALL FROM ONE PERSON. So then, when we find out that, unsurprisingly, our friend doesn't possess all these qualities, we get upset.

But in fact they don't need to. Each friendship is unique, and beautiful, and buildable. Maybe right now person A won't be there to laugh with, but who's to say that they won't change? No one. Because as we change, our friendships do. 

It's important to let people know how much you treasure them. How much you love your friendship.

And so, I challenge you, show them your appreciate. 

With one friend we send a particular emoji we both love to show our love of our friendship. It might seem odd to others, but to us, it's perfect. With another we like to buy eachother little presents on days out. With another, we outright say it. 

And so I challenge you,

Let someone know how much their friendship means to you.

If you don't have a special way of showing them that, then why not send them an appreciation method. Sometimes I like to send my friend's little 'reminder that:' messages. They might think it's weird, or they might love it, but either way, you'll lose nothing. Worst case scenario, you just don't go about showing your appreciation in that way again.
